Canada announces over 1 million jobs in 2022. Yes, and that too after it’s employment rate is decreasing fast. But, the data from Statistics Canada reveals that there are over 1 million jobs.
Statistics Canada is the national statistical office. The agency ensures Canadians have the key information on Canada’s economy, society and environment that they require to function effectively as citizens and decision makers.
The current data shows Canadian employers are actively seeking to fill 1,005,700 vacant positions in different departments. The high number of vacancies meant that the unemployment-to-job-vacancy ratio was 1.1.
Well, the most interesting part is that the increase of vacancies is in specific sectors. The healthcare and social assistance is on the list. It has 143,400 vacancies and shows an increase of 14.5%. This is a significant increase over the vacancy rate in April, which was 5.4% and 20% higher than it was in May 2021.
Moreover, there are 161,100 jobs in the accommodation and food services. This sector is showing the growth continuously. It shows the increasing strength of the hospitality industry in Canada post-covid era.
There were 99,200 jobs in retail trade, 86,800 in the manufacturing industry, 84,600 in the construction field and 51,100 in transportation and warehousing.
The two provinces with highest number of vacancies are Nova Scotia and Manitoba with 24,600 and 32,200 jobs respectively.
The increasing employment opportunities and lowering unemployment rate also depicts the stronghold of Canadian economy. Canada isn’t affected with the global economic downfall after the Covid-19. Instead, its economy is showing a strong rebound in particular to the social sector, the hospitality industry and the other economy flourishing areas.
