India celebrates its independence every year on 15th of August. The year, 2022 marks the 75 years of independence for both India and Pakistan. However, the issue of Kashmir remains a continuous rift between the nuclear armed nations.
India and Pakistan maintain control of territory in their own boundaries until a UN mandated plebiscite is conducted in the region. Both nations have fought several wars and skirmishes on their borders on this conflict. However, the Kashmiri people are the ones that face the wrath.
Yasin Malik is the face of unarmed and non-violent movement against Indian oppression in Kashmir. However, he was arrested on frivolous charges in 2019. He remained adamant that these are politically motivated charges and the Indian government is trying to damage the Kashmir cause through maligning his peaceful and non-violent struggle.
