Rwanda Faces First Outbreak of Marburg Virus Disease. Rwanda is grappling with its first confirmed outbreak of the deadly Marburg virus disease. The outbreak was first identified in late September, with officials confirming several cases in the northern region of the country.
The Marburg virus, which is part of the filovirus family, is highly contagious and can lead to severe hemorrhagic fever with high mortality rates. Symptoms typically appear suddenly and include fever, severe headache, and muscle pains, often followed by vomiting and bleeding. However, The disease is transmitted through direct contact with bodily fluids of infected individuals or through exposure to contaminated surfaces.
