President Trump introduces a Tariff, the next day it is changed; the third day brings it back to the first day and the fourth day means doubling the tariff.
Trump Is Changing Tariffs Faster Than Baby Diapers. He is making the policy shifts for all over the world every few hours. Probably, he doesn’t realize the impact of his decisions when he announced a new tariff, or a change in it or reducing it or increasing it. While it was evident that the world may see a global disorder as Trump became the US President again. It was unclear how he would bring about the change. Well, his shifting policies were definitely the top scorer. Even, a super computer may get confused with such conflicting policy changes. Imagine: what American Customs and Border Protection Department will be doing now.
Trump’s arrival at the White House was significant. Within the first few days, it was clear how the global politics will end up. Some were hopeful for his straightforward dealing on global issues. Yet, there was a concern as he is one of the most powerful men in the world. Interestingly, he has two faces where one can get inspired by his dealings. However, one could know at a later stage how brutal or inhumane he could be. The Muslims were happy that ceasefire deal was signed in Gaza before he took office. Yet, as he took control of the office. President Trump wants to take control of Gaza and transform it into what he calls the “Riviera of the Middle East.”
The shutting down of USAID also reflects the significant changes during Trump Administration. The most interesting aspects of his presidency remains public humiliation of Ukrainian President Zelensky. It was quiet unexpected as United States was at the forefront of Russia Ukraine was since 2022. The encounter showed how easy it would be for President Trump to shift away from decades or centuries old policies of the United States.
President Trump’s Tariffs
President Trump launched the Tariffs on April 2, 2025 and there were multiple Executive Orders within these eight days. The amendments were pretty simple. He would just announce it on his social platform Truth Social and post it on Elon Musk’s X. “China has ripped us. We will not bent down,” claims a post from Trump. At once he threatens, later he is touching the feet. He had imposed significant tariffs on every country in the world on April 2, 2025. On April 10, 2025, he has announced to keep a hold for 90 days for all countries of the world, except China.
These tariffs show the extent of manipulation that the US has the privilege of exercising. Although, China has shown its bold stance on Trump’s tariffs. It has also frisked away the America’s confidence as a global economic power. China is not only challenging it. China is forcing the United States to come to its own terms or deal with severe economic pressure.
Yet, the Trump Administration has introduced 104% tariffs on China alone. He is withdrawing all the tariffs on other countries for ninety days. It seems that he wants to tackle China at first. Well, China can sell off the U. S. Government bonds and keep the Trump Administration surprised. And Uncle Sam knows it well. But this remains to be seen as we see increasing escalation between America and China.
Tariffs in the Global Trade
Tariffs are an important factor in global trade. Every country imposes some sort of tariffs to ensure their markets remain competitive. The tariffs also regulate the different groups, structures and segments in the market. While, a number of countries impose tariffs across the world. The total merchandise exports of the world stood at US$ 23,813,309 million in 2023. United States had exports of US$ 2 trillion. China had exports of US$ 3.4 trillion. China emerged as a largest exporter of merchandise around the world.
New Tariffs of the United States
The United States had lower tariffs in trade. Resultantly, the global economic centers were gaining more trade surplus and the American economy was facing the deficit. It was a main point of contention between United States and every country on the world. However, the difference of trade with China was extremely high. Resultantly, the Chinese companies were more under the radar. Today, the issue of Tariffs is the bone of contention amongst the global trading partners of the United States.
As President Trump continues to impose tariffs, it is yet to be seen how the new global trade evolves.
