There are a number of steps one has to go through to ensure they do not have corona virus.

This happens if you travel from abroad to Pakistan these days. Everyone who lands at the airport including the crew has to go through some stipulated measures. The civil administration receives these travelers. Thus, no one can meet them. Private vehicles are hired for this. The authorities charge from those who can afford to pay Rs 500 per passenger. However, those who can’t pay are taken free of cost.

Compulsory Quarantine

For each flight, there are 15/20 air condition buses so people can sit at a distance of 1.5 meters from each other. Once settled, the passengers have 2 options. Either to go to a private notified hotel and pay their charges which amount to Rs 3000 per night or go to a government quarantine free of cost. In Islamabad, the notified hotels are all 3 or 4 star hotels with minimum of Rs 12000 per night. However, the government is subsidizing the hotel charges and they have to pay only Rs 3000. Everyone has to stay for 48 hours at the quarantine.

After completion of 48 hours, health teams will come and take tests of every individual. The cost of the test is Rs 6500 but it is free for passengers and government pays for the test. Those who test negative are free to go to their homes.

What happens if you’re corona virus positive?

Those testing positive have to stay home quarantined for next 12 days. They take their data and addresses. It is shared with their District Administrations. Overall, the data is safe and the sharing of data is for monitoring purposes only.

“Those who are positive have to stay with us for the next 12 days and can’t be relieved,” claims Deputy Commissioner Mr. Hamza Shafqat.

Moreover, the positive patients are tested again after 12 days. If they test negative, they are free to go to their homes. However, if they are still positive, they have to stay for another few days.

“We have quarantined 37 positive patients from international flights. 34 have recovered and gone to their homes. Queries?,” asks the Deputy Commissioner.

Further, he claims that more than 40,000 Pakistanis are coming back to the country over a period of 6 weeks. Moreover, the Islamabad Capital Territory has already received 15 flights and over 2200 passengers.
