But then, there’s a fact. The adults are more mature, observant and knowing of the consequences of anything. Thus, if a teenage boy or girl is hiding something, it might be point of concern. So, the question arises here. Is your teenage child hiding something from you secretly?

So, it’s a big YES. They are in a phase of partial adulthood. And they don’t understand you as you want them to understand. Yet, their age means that you should make effort to get into their shoes. And, try making them comfortable with whatever views, beliefs or thoughts they have. More importantly, what they do and with whom are your key concerns. Let us explain this.

Although, the teens are too young to understand the perplexities of life. Yet, they are also very emotional and relatively inexperienced. So, you want them to experience life as they want. However, you also want that they are safe. So, in the present world, you need to focus on their company. Whom they meet or get to talk to easily. If they are comfortable with some adult, this is the red flag. Otherwise, things aren’t that bad.

They might be hiding other stuff such as the friend’s gossips or their vacation plans or some random talks. And this is all fine. But then, there is another aspect to it. Do they switch off their screens when you’re around? Are they hiding something?

Of course they’re hiding something! Don’t you close your laptop or lock your phone sometimes? People want privacy for all kinds of reasons and most of the time there’s nothing nefarious about it.

So what is your kid hiding? Very possibly porn. It’s a good idea to discuss pornography with your child, not to accuse them of anything or pass judgement, but to explain to them the artificiality and exploitation of the porn industry. Offer to answer any questions they have. It’s also a great opportunity to talk about online safety in general and encourage them to open up to you if they’re talking to a stranger, sending or receiving explicit pictures, or seeing things that make them uncomfortable.

Is it about Scandalous Stories?

There’s also a good chance that they’re hiding something even less scandalous that they just find embarrassing. Maybe they’re reading fanfiction or writing poetry or keeping a journal. Especially if you’re a conservative family, they may have questions about their sexual orientation or political views that they’re trying to figure out but is scared to talk to you about. Tell them you’ve noticed the closing of their computer and you respect their privacy but you’re concerned and would like them to talk to you about what they’re doing.

There’s a small chance that what your child is doing online is actually harmful, something like cyber-bullying (as either an instigator or a victim), hacking, looking into bomb-making, or getting involved with extremist groups. If that’s the case, you’ll probably notice them doing or saying other things that concern you, and then the issue is much bigger than just closing the computer. The best thing you can do is keep the lines of communication open.

On a more serious note, they could be depressed or have a mental health thing going on. Thus, its important to loosening up and caring rather than prying. Like luring a scared animal you have to be patient and they will come to you and you’ll be accepting of whatever comes out of that mouth. On a less serious note, its most likely that he is looking at stuff like this for meme purposes.
