Palestinians stand with Lebanese in the aftermath of explosion

The explosion was shocking for the entire Arab region as Lebanon has been peaceful for past few years

Palestinians stand with Lebanese in the aftermath of explosion. In the wake of the massive explosion that rocked Beirut on Tuesday, Palestinians in the Occupied West Bank and the besieged Gaza Strip came up to show their solidarity with the Lebanese by holding several events and ceremonies.

Despite the siege, poor conditions and the threat of Covid-19 spreading in Gaza. Thousands of Gazans took to the streets to show their solidarity and support with the Lebanese. In addition, several blood donations were organized across the coastal enclave to be transferred to Lebanon.     

“Our hearts go out  to our brothers and sisters; the Lebanese people following the terrible disaster they experienced” says Malek Madi, a Palestinian activist who participated in the rally. “Their injury is our injury and we wish that there is no borders so that we can reach them” he added  

The massive explosion on Tuesday evening occurred in a nearby warehouse containing ammonium nitrate. It was following a massive fire in an incendiary warehouse in the port of Beirut and cause of immense damage to the surrounding areas. At least, 150 people are dead with more than 5,000 wounded.

The cause behind this explosion is yet to confirm. The Lebanese President Michel Aoun announces that an investigation is underway.

Palestine Announces National Mourning

Palestinian Authority president, Mahmoud Abbas declared Wednesday a day of national mourning in solidarity with Beirut.

In the West Bank city of Ramallah, the Palestine Broadcasting Corporation building was lit up in the colors of the Lebanese flag. It had written on it “From Palestine to Lebanon, our hearts are with you.”

It was to show solidarity with the country a day after a massive explosion shook its capital. The Palestinians have a clear message despite the spreading of pandemic in the West Bank. They will never forget their brothers and sisters, and they wish they could do more”
