Corona virus may kill one million Pakistanis

A few independent doctors have claimed that the situation may turn worse. They have also claimed that it may result in death of one million or more Pakistanis. And they have the remedy: ensure social distancing till the time the vaccine is out.

How many have died due to Corona Virus?

The virus has killed over 50,000 people globally. It has hit the United States of America the worst with approximately 250,000 affected people and 6000 deaths. And it has hit the country in no time. President Trump expected different and continuously put a position that USA is safe from corona virus. However, as the country got affected, there are rising cases of infection and deaths every passing day.

On the other hand, the European countries were equally unaware of corona’s strength. The European nations also put reluctance to implement curfew or lock down. The countries viewpoint was same as of most of the world i.e. the economies would collapse. However, little did they know, that the corona had already inflicted their economies badly.

Today, Italy has 115,242 infected patients of corona virus with 14,000 deaths. The case of Spain is also similar. It has 110,238 infected cases and 10,096 total deaths. And this number is continuously rising. Moreover, Germany has also shown an increase in cases. The country has reported 84,600 cases and 1097 deaths until now.

The Case of Pakistan

It gives us a clear outlook of what is happening around us. It also shows the possibility of increase in cases and number of deaths in Pakistan.

If we closely look at the situation in Pakistan, it may share the level of danger for the country. For instance, the government’s inability to trace 41,000 people from a religious congregation is itself a danger. It is just a recent update. It shares that these 41,000 people were a part of Tableeghi Jamaat.

The result of this action of Tableeghi Jamaat is yet to be seen. These people have traveled to all corners of the country, and may have affected thousands more. Imagine 41,000 people infecting 10 people even. It makes the number of infected people 410,000 or half a million. And than this number goes continuously up as this is the trend.

The situation is grave. It speaks of the volume of challenge to the country. The number of pilgrims from Iran are another challenge. The number of returnees from Iran is also increasing everyday. Although, the quarantine facilities have been established, yet the political involvement may result in an extremely bad situation.

The current situation is not very good. There is a very limited number of tests being performed. Moreover, there are also some reports where the testing kits were faulty. So, it leaves Pakistanis stranded on door to nowhere.

What is the view of analysts?

Let us understand the situation. The number is increasing. There are possibilities of sudden increase in cases. According to Dr. Faheem Khan, a virologist in Islamabad, “the trend in Italy, Spain and USA provide us with a glimpse of what can happen. And We are exactly following the same patterns.”

The government is still ascertaining the whereabouts of 41,000 people from Tableeghi Jamaat. It is yet to ascertain if they all are negative or if they are infected with virus. A number of positive cases have already appeared of those who were tested among these people.

In order to control the menace, it is necessary that the people take immediate actions for self isolation, quarantine or lock down on their own. The fact is that we do not know as yet if there are already one million infected people with corona virus among us.

Act, before it’s too late!
