Amid Corona, uncertainty rules Islamabad

As the nation fights corona Islamabad, it seems the cabinet has its own serious issues. The government seems to fight itself. A number of senior ministers and key officers of Prime Minister Imran Khan are moving out from their portfolios.

Prime Minister Imran Khan has assigned new portfolios to his team today, here in Islamabad. Mr. Fakhar Imam is given charge of Food Ministry. Mr. Khusru Bakhtiyar name appears in Sugar Crisis and he is given charge of Economic Affairs Division.

Prime Minister’s key economic man who presented the last budget, Mr. Hammad Azhar is given the Ministry of Industries. Mr. Azam Sawati is given Narcotics Control. Mr. Babar Awan is made Advisor for Parliamentary Affairs and Mr. Amin-ul-Haq is given Telecom ministry.

Moreover, Mr. Shahzad Arbab, one of the key men of Prime Minister Imran Khan’s team has also been removed from office.

The development took place after the report on sugar crisis was made public a day ago. The report has named Mr. Khusru Bakhtiar and Mr. Jahangir Khan Tareen as beneficiaries of the recent sugar price hike. A sudden crisis of sugar had occurred a few months back. According to a claim, Mr. Tareen made Rs 20 billion more profit this year.

Meanwhile, a team member of Prime Minister Imran Khan and former Punjab Government Spokesperson claimed that Mr. Jahangir Khan Tareen has been removed as Chairman of Task Force on Agriculture.

The decision came as a shock to Mr. Tareen also. He also took it to Twitter. He questioned Mr. Gill and many others to show the notification of his appointment.

It shows how unclear are the people sitting in the government. The world is fighting corona virus. Our ministers are still having tussle in between.

Moreover, the change of portfolios also shows the level of seriousness at the highest levels of policy making. The change at this moment signifies the prioritization of activities. It also depicts the ability of senior policy makers to fight the corona virus.
