The researchers examine outcomes for corona virus patients with admissions from March 1 and April 4. The researchers review 12 hospitals in New York city and Long Island area.

Overall, the researchers report death of 553 patients. However, this rate exceeds to 88% for the patients who need ventilators to breath. This rate further increases for patients above the age of 65. Only 3% of patients show survival above the age of 65. Further, more men are dying then women.

As there are no proven drugs, the ventilators are only left options for Intensive Care Units and critical care centers.

Study Outcome

The study only follows definite outcomes for patients who are dead or discharged from hospital. It doesn’t cover the patients under observation or treatment. Moreover, the outcome data was of 2,634 patients however 5700 patients were in hospitals during this period.

The study is of observational nature. However, it could not draw any conclusion about how best to use ventilators in corona virus patients. “We’re only reporting observations in this report,” claims Karina Davidson, Senior Vice President for Research at Northwell Health.

As this study claims, 9 out of 10 people dying on ventilators, including more men then women.

The study may be helpful in further understanding the outcome of using ventilators on corona virus patients. It may also allow identification of cases which may need ventilators. It may also provide a data chart for identifying the cases and treatments for corona virus patients.
