Daily count of the deadly disease is increasing by every passing day; touching 80,000 mark within days

Corona is serious but Pakistanis are not, and this is visible in the daily report from the government. The life goes on as usual and there is little heeding to the government’s advice. The government regularly advises people to take extreme precautions against the virus.

The general guidelines include ensuring social distancing, wearing masks and regularly applying hand sanitizers. These guidelines also include aspects of keeping a distance of 6 feet from each other when in public. Moreover, the sterilization of crowded places is also being promoted. This specially applies to places where corona virus patients may be in presence.

However, Pakistanis are yet to take it seriously. A number of conspiracy theories are circulating about the corona virus. These include of it being a Bill Gates plan to implant a chip in human beings. Another theory calls it a Western propaganda to control economy. Another one takes it to be dispute between China and United States. And unbelievably! there are millions who believe in these theories.

Amid these controversies, there are news coming in of increasing cases. A significant number of cases are coming everyday across Pakistan. The country is reporting more than 4,000 cases from the beginning of this week. More worrisome is the fact that Pakistan is conducting only a small number of tests. Pakistan’s current testing numbers are around 16,000. It shows that there is a 25% of virus contracting rate. And this is huge.

Similarly, Pakistan witnessed corona related 78 deaths yesterday and 67 today. This number is also likely to increase in coming days as it will be proportional to the number of affectees.

General View of Corona Virus

The rural communities are largely ignorant of this virus. There is a general perception that it is only hitting people with low immunity. Although, there are such claims, but who knows their level of immunity sitting at home?

Then, there are large groups of people who are not ready to listen. The proof of this exists in thousands of women out on streets in the markets during Eid shopping. And one can still find men, women and children out in parks, shopping malls, markets and places of worship.

They are unable to gauge the strength of this disease and the damage it can afflict upon the lives of people.

A number of doctors are dying every week in Pakistan. The officers in police, civil services and the army are also putting their lives against corona virus. Yet, there are millions not ready to heed to the government’s advice of social distancing.

Clearly, the Corona is serious but Pakistanis are not!
