Pakistani company Ferozsons Laboratories Limited have got the license for it. The CEO of Ferozsons Laboratories Osman Khalid Waheed claims that the production will start within weeks.
Remdesivir is a broad-spectrum antiviral medication by the bio-pharmaceutical company Gilead Sciences. As of 2020, remdesivir is in testing phase as a specific treatment for COVID-19, and has been authorized for emergency use in the U.S. and approved for use in Japan for people with severe symptoms.
Thus, Pakistan is one of the first three countries around the world which has got the right to produce and export the medicine. It also gives an immense boost to the country’s economy. Pakistan’s economy is facing harsh outcome after closure of business and semi lock-down in the country.
The latest reports also claim that the remittance is also decreasing in the country. Thus, it required a strong support to its economy to deal with its high debts, declining employment rates and increasing poverty. This may serve as a strong breather.
Pakistan expects to export the medicine to 127 countries across the world. This may result in a huge inflow of foreign exchange in the country.
The decision to produce the medicine was announced in a press conference. The Advisor to Prime Minister on Health, Dr. Zafar Mirza was also in attendance.
